OB Morning Surf - October 22, 2009

Yet another beautiful day in paradise... Ok. so yea, the water is dipping in temperature and the full-suits are out of the closet. But something about the smell of wet neoprene in the morning somehow triggers another vivid memory...
With Winter around the corner, thoughts turn to those of crisp steps in cold sand. Cold sand that leads to smooth corners groomed by slight east winds and a bright, clear sunrise...

Nice little Late-Fall swell..
Although there were many close-outs, there were a also a few corners here and there with the high-tide holding up the sections..

Beach Portraits

Living close to the ocean and being a native to the area affords me some great spots for Family Portraits
on San Diego's beaches...

Having local knowledge of where and when
the light will be good
is critical to great photos.

These were taken about a mile from my studio for the Christian Family.

Beach Portraits - Makenna

A good friend of mine asked me to shoot some images of her daughter Makenna...

It was a challenge, because like a lot of kids her age, she does not embrace the idea of photos being taken of her.

With most subjects, I try to catch them just being themselves, as this usually produces the best results and brings out the soul in an image.

The beautiful thing about digital photography is the instant feedback. Both the photographer and the subject can view the images right after they are taken. Once I showed a few images to Makena, she loosened up a bit, began to trust what I was shooting and even allowed me to pose her for some dramatic effect.
